At a recent State Board of Education meeting, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction presented the board with a draft of the Annual Report on Charter Schools. Lt. Governor Forest asked that the voting be delayed to allow board members adequate time to review and add additional data for a more thorough report of the successes and failures of North Carolina charter schools. Lt. Governor Forest’s motion to delay the vote was mischaracterized by several state-wide media outlets. WRAL TV allowed Lt. Governor Forest the opportunity to set the record straight on air earlier this week. You can watch the full interview here. You can also read his letter to the editor of the News & Observer here.

On Monday, January 11th, Lt. Governor Forest spent the day in Randolph County. He toured Uwharrie Charter Academy and saw first-hand how it is enriching the lives of its students through project-based learning. Lt. Governor Forest also toured the Greensboro Liberty Mega Site with officials from the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. Strategically placed in the heart of North Carolina, this site will drive job creation not just for the triad, but for the entire state.  He also got a behind the scenes look at the North Carolina Zoo and the economic impact it has on the greater Asheboro region. Lt. Governor Forest completed his day by answering questions and talking about the future of North Carolina with the citizens of Asheboro in a Town Hall meeting.
